Holafly eSIM review: how unlimited is unlimited?
Holafly's Japan unlimited plan shares only 1 GB of hotspot data a day, and Holafly says an operator can, in rare cases, slow your speed for up to a day. Fine for a phone, tight for a laptop.

A week in Japan on Holafly's unlimited plan costs $27.50, the list price in dollars on Holafly's Japan page (checked November 2, 2026). The longer plans on the same page: $50.50 for 15 days, and $73.90 for 30 days (the page shows both in USD).
That buys data with no stated daily ceiling. It also buys a few conditions.
What the page promises
The Japan page sells "unlimited data throughout your trip" and says there are no top-ups to worry about. It lists networks as KDDI / SoftBank. It doesn't name a number of gigabytes at full speed, and that is the thing to compare against rivals. Airalo's Japan page states the figure outright: full speed for the first 3 GB each day, up to 20 Mbps, then 1 Mbps. Its 7-day unlimited plan is $26.50, against Holafly's $27.50 for the same week. So Airalo costs less and spells out the cap. Holafly says nothing about a number.
What it does say is in the FAQ. Network operators apply a Fair Usage Policy "in rare cases", which Holafly says is applied for no more than one day and resets the next day. Holafly calls that external to itself. I read it as a real clause, and it sits in the FAQ, away from the price.
Hotspot is where unlimited ends
Holafly caps hotspot sharing at 1 GB per day, and the page spells out the math itself: a 7-day plan includes 7 GB to share. If you want to tether a laptop for work, that is the limit that matters. I would expect a couple of people streaming off one phone to use 1 GB fast.
How the plan starts and stops
Validity begins when the eSIM connects to a supported network, not at purchase. Holafly's example: a 1-day plan activated at 10 AM runs until 10 AM the next day. You must turn on data roaming for the eSIM to work. When days run out, Holafly says the eSIM no longer works. You can't move an installed eSIM to another country either.
There's also Always On. Every Holafly eSIM carries a 1 GB monthly allowance valid in 150+ countries, refreshing every 30 days, as long as you keep the eSIM installed. It doesn't accumulate. Good as a safety net for landing somewhere with no Wi-Fi.
Data only
The plan is data only. Holafly's FAQ says there is no local number for calls or texts, and points you to WhatsApp and VoIP apps. Keep your home SIM on for texts, and switch its data roaming off so it doesn't bill you.
Beyond Japan
Holafly's Global plan covers 142 countries on its page and costs $46.90 for 7 days, checked November 2, 2026. Its hotspot rule is the same, 1 GB per day. For a multi-country trip, Holafly vs Maya Mobile lines up the two global plans, and the unlimited roundup puts both against Airalo, Nomad and aloSIM.
If you only need a few gigabytes, unlimited is the wrong purchase. Unlimited or fixed data covers where the line sits, and the calculator prices a trip in seconds. The plan itself is on its product page.
Score
I'd give it 7 out of 10. Nobody here has used it, so the score weighs price, the limits Holafly states and how plainly the terms read. The coverage and plan lengths are good. The hotspot limit and the missing full-speed number cost it points. I'd buy it for a phone-only week where I don't want to count gigabytes. I'd skip it for tethering.

7/10
Unlimited in the plain sense for one phone, with a 1 GB a day hotspot limit and a fair-use clause the FAQ admits to. It costs more than Airalo's 7-day Japan unlimited plan, which states its daily cap.
