Both plans are a week of unlimited data that works across continents. Holafly's global plan is $46.90, Maya's is $19.99, both list prices in dollars (checked November 2, 2026 and November 2, 2026). By those two numbers Maya is the cheaper week.

The price gap is the obvious difference. The fine print is where the choice gets made.

Hotspot

Holafly shares 1 GB per day over hotspot. Maya lists hotspot as included, with no daily limit on the page. If you tether a laptop, that alone decides it. Maya's acceptable use policy bars running a commercial hotspot and using the eSIM as home or office broadband. That reads as an anti-resale clause rather than a sharing limit.

What "unlimited" does under load

Holafly's FAQ says operators can apply a Fair Usage Policy that slows speed for no more than one day. Its page for this plan gives no daily full-speed figure. Maya's page says "no caps, no throttling", and its acceptable use policy permits deprioritisation during congestion for usage inconsistent with normal individual mobile use. The two clauses work differently. Holafly describes an operator measure that applies "in rare cases" for no more than a day. Maya's targets usage patterns inconsistent with normal individual mobile use. Maya's tagline is the stronger promise, and its policy is the fine print behind it.

Coverage

Holafly's global page lists 142 countries and says the plan works in a wider "200+ destinations" subject to local networks, so check your own list before buying. Maya's page says 165+, and the copy of the page I fetched shows only the start of its country list. Check every stop on both before buying, not only the headline numbers. Our eSIM list filters by country.

Starting and ending

Holafly's validity begins when the eSIM connects to a supported network, and when the days end the eSIM stops working. Maya's page says plans auto-renew while Travel Mode is on and can be turned off at any time. That makes Maya the one to babysit. You have to switch it off on the flight home or you'll be billed again.

Maya's Japan page says you sign up and activate in its app, and its FAQ says the phone must be carrier unlocked. Holafly adds Always On, a 1 GB monthly allowance in 150+ countries while the eSIM stays installed.

Which to buy

Maya for most trips. The week is cheaper, hotspot has no stated daily limit, and the headline country count is higher. Holafly if you dislike subscription mechanics and want a pack that dies on schedule. Neither includes a number. Both are data only.

Single-country trips change the answer. Our Holafly review and Maya Mobile review go plan by plan, and the unlimited roundup adds three more makers.
