Roam Gull

a gull that reads the fine print

Roam Gull prices eSIM plans and carrier roaming passes for a real trip, and lists the travel gadgets worth carrying. Every price has the date it was checked.

Roam Gull is part of the Future Begins network. Pavel Ryzhikh runs it.

The job is small. You've booked the flight, and your phone needs data when the wheels touch down. You want to know what that costs for this country and these days, and what the plan does when its data or validity runs out.

Where the numbers come from

Vendors' own plan pages, read in US dollars with the date noted. Coverage comes from the same pages. Rules about power banks and trackers come from the FAA and TSA. Test results belong to the outlet that ran them, named in the sentence.

That has a cost. You won't read how a plan felt on a train outside Kyoto. You will read what the terms take back and what the trip adds up to.

How the order gets decided

The calculator sorts by total cost for your trip. In lists, I weigh price against limits such as speed caps and hotspot rules, and I name the rival. Sale prices don't count, because they move.

Spot a price that's changed? The stamp on the page says how old it is.
